What you'll do
Our experience is now completely self-guided. We spend 15 minutes with you pre-departure discussing safety, regulations, operations and navigation.
We'll meet on our private dock about 90 minutes before high tide and start a briefing. Our kayaks are 8 or 10 feet in length and extra wide making them very stable. When your party is comfortable, you may depart down Simpkins Creek.
You may stay in the various adjoining small creeks or make your way to James Island Creek which is the entry to Charleston Harbor. The marshes are both peaceful and beautiful any time of year. We advise you to use your phone's GPS for navigation but do provide a printed map as well as suggestions on best routes.
You'll see birds like white Ibis (Curlews), Egrets, Herons, Ospreys, Summer Ducks or Mergansers (diving ducks) in winter. Likely you'll see fish jumping and miles of marsh-grass (brilliant green in summer) or gorgeous sunsets or dolphins and hear the call of Marsh Hens.
Sit back and enjoy the serenity of the season and scene.
The incoming tide creates an upper body workout, but your party controls the pace and duration of your gentle ride on the creek.
Please consider sunscreen, hats, sunglasses or gloves.
Also note that times are based on tides and generally can't be altered.
See you on the dock!

It was a great experience for us all (two adults, two teenagers which are 13 and 17) especially being our first time kayaking. The learning process of kayaking and bumping the reeds was what made it so fun. The privacy and the self guided tour was awesome. Thank you for making this a special trip for us. We will definitely recommend your services to our friends and family.

Great self-led excursion, Dan explained everything and was very responsive. We loved seeing the wading birds and harbor views for a totally different perspective on CHS. Would definitely recommend this. Also rec stopping at Ellis Creek Fish Camp after to refuel on calories.

This little creek kayaking was just what we needed .It was very relaxing, private and we were able to go off on our own without a tour guide. We were able to go at our own pace and just enjoy the scenery. We saw birds, snails fish and of course ,the views in the creeks can't be beat. We looked at other kayak rentals on trip advisor etc, and we are so glad we went with Dan's kayak service insteas. He is so nice and informative and we really appreciate him . He has a great set up and if we are in the area again, we will most definitely come back and kayak at Dan's again. 10/10. ( we love the water, we love to kayak and we love privacy. we spent the whole 2 hours out there. so if you like self guided tour , privacy, calm , a litte bit of a paddle, hospitality and great views this one is for you!

We loved our self-guided kayak trip. We saw lots of birds and kayaking through the neighborhood creeks was quiet and interesting. The trip was timed with the tides so the return paddle was easy and with the current. Dan was a nice host!

Dan is a Kayaking Evangelist and now we’re believers for life! Dan made sure we kayaked safely where we were able to complete the self-guided tour with ease. The orientation before kayaking was very informative and covered everything we needed to know for our first time kayaking. Dan has great area restaurant suggestions too.

Dan was a great experience a great host and I had an amazing experience. This was my first time kayaking. I'm not at all outdoorsy or athletic. 9/10 on the clumsy scale and a bit fluffy (sharing because I'm sure another fluffy girl wants to know she will fit just fine in the kayak.) This was completely out of my comfort zone but I had a great time!
